2012 => 2013

Well, 2012 is all but done.

 It's been quite a year for me and my family. God has blessed us immensely. We've had some really great things happen, and some really difficult things happen. But no matter what all has happened, God has been in control.

High points include my older daughter turning 16 and getting her first car and our family in the process of purchasing our own home.

Low points include being betrayed by then gossiped about by people whom I trusted and regarded as friends and the passing of my grandmother.

Fun activities have included being recreation coordinator at children's camp, working with Southern Baptist Disaster Relief in Creek County and New Orleans, and going to Southern China and Hong Kong with a group of pastors from Oklahoma.

I don't know what 2013 holds in store for us, but, I'd recommend storing up a few things like firearms, ammo, and survival resources. The world is falling apart at the seams.

Nevertheless, God is in control.

Missions Presentation at KBA

I was honored to serve as camp missionary this year again, at KBA.  Tuesday was about Thailand, Wednesday was about West Africa, Thursday was about China, and Friday was about Disaster Relief.

Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM)

Monday and Tuesday of this week, I completed the final course necessary to seek Chaplaincy Endorsement by the North American Mission Board.  I attended and completed the course "Critical Incident Stress Management" at the Oklahoma City Police Department Training Facility.

OKCPD Sgt. Greg Giltner conducted most of the training, but Chaplain Jack Poe provided several segments.

CISM is recognized as the "standard" for assisting folks in crisis.  We learned about Compassion Fatigue, Coping Skills, and Critical Stress Indicators.

This morning, I completed and emailed my application to the North American Mission Board for endorsement. With this particular course and their endorsement, I will have internationally recognized Chaplaincy credentials. 

Chaplaincy Training

I completed the initial two day Chaplaincy training at the BGCO in Oklahoma City.  My friends from Thailand, Robert and Faye Griffin, were kind enough to provide me lodging for the event.

It was conducted by Dr. Naomi Paget, FBI Chaplain and literally the Author of the Chaplain's Manual.

The training was never boring, and that's really saying something coming from a short attention span person who is EASILY bored.

My next step is to take the Critical Incident Stress Management course offered at the Oklahoma City Police Department on April 5-6.

After completing these two courses, I will then apply to be endorsed by the North American Mission Board.  This will afford me the Chaplain's credentials to serve outside the borders of Oklahoma as an SBC Disaster Relief Chaplain.

Chaplaincy

While attending the Evangelism Conference in Moore, OK, this past January, I spoke with the head of the Chaplaincy Department at the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma.

To make a long story short and readable, I am attending Chaplain's Training next week in OKC. Two weeks later, I'll complete a Critical Incident Stress Management course at the OKC police department.

When these two things have been satisfactorily accomplished, I'll then apply for endorsement from the North American Mission Board.

The goal is for me to be an Endorsed Chaplain available for Southern Baptist Disaster Relief. It appears my first assignment may be Haiti!

Please pray for me as I begin this new "chapter" in my life. I have the full support from my church and I shouldn't have to be away from the pulpit more than a few times each year.
