Chilean Miner Rescue a Picture of Jesus

As we were studying Scripture tonight at our mid-week Bible Study, it came to mind that the Chilean miner rescue is a picture of salvation through Jesus Christ.

  • The miners couldn't do anything to rescue themselves.  (Ephesians 2:9)
  • When the "capsule" arrived, they had a choice to get in or to not get in.  (Acts 4:12, Romans 10:13)
  • Even inside the capsule, they had to depend on something greater than themselves to get to the destination. (Ephesians 2:8)
  • They weren't rescued as soon as they stepped into the capsule, but had to go on the 1/2 hour trip to the top, but they couldn't be rescued UNLESS they got in the capsule. (Romans 8:24-25)
  • If they chose to not get in the capsule, they would surely die. (Romans 6:23)
  • There was only one way out. (John 14:6)
I'm sure there are other similarities.  Can you think of some?
